Akira - In 2030, the futuristic city of Neo-Tokyo stands on an artificial island in Tokyo Bay after the original city was destroyed by an apparent nuclear explosion thirty years before, causing World War III. Shotaro Kaneda and Tetsuo Shima, the leaders of a gang of teenaged bikers, trespasses into the ruins of Tokyo. On the way back, Tetsuo’s bike abruptly explodes when he finds a child with wizened features, Takashi, blocking his path. The child disappears before Kaneda’s eyes before Tetsuo, badly injured, is taken away by soldiers. The following night, Kaneda’s gang bumps into and corners the child, who reacts by devastating their surroundings with psychokinetic powers. A massive pursuit of the child ensues, culinating in a canal. Kei and Ryu, members of a terrorist group called the Resistance, are revealed to have kidnapped Takashi from a secret government lab, and thought he was actually a person named “Akira”. Also on the scene is Colonel Shikishima, the head of the government project, who manages to re-capture Takashi and uses another test subject, Masaru, to repel the terrorists. In the melee, Kaneda finds and steals a small, mysterious pill from Masaru.
